Embracing Transformative Resolutions for a Balanced Year Ahead

We often look at New Year’s resolutions skeptically often dismissing them all together. I believe resolutions are not just things you should avoid doing or resolve to do but a kind of roadmap for your year ahead. These are ten resolutions that I love to keep and why they are meaningful to get you through the year. Let us see how we could be embracing transformative resolutions for a balanced year ahead.

Prioritize Your Health

Health comes first and I think the best way to start of your year is establishing disciplined routines that you can stick to to stay healthy and keep your mind sharp. Being fit and healthy is something we very often give up on but it’s something that is needed before you venture out to do anything else. For without health;  work, family and responsibilities will be harder to maintain.

Cultivate Empathy

Often we over look the people around us because we get so busy with our own lives. Staying attuned to the people that matter is important to maintain healthy relationships. You never know a sibling, friend or colleague may need help which you maybe able to give. You may require the same help one day and the give and take should always stay strong.

Embrace Laughter

Even if life is hard give yourself moments to laugh. It could be turning on the television or a Netflix show for a comedy to have a good laugh but don’t forget that you have reasons to keep smiling.

Chronicle Your Journey

This is my favorite one because I love having a diary. It’s my solace my go to something to remind me to keep carrying on. A diary or a planner lets you put your goals down, your projects, your dreams. Never forget how powerful a vision can be when written down you will see things magically open up for you.

It’s your best friend through good and bad almost like having a pet dog.

Express Your Feelings

When we have a negative feeling towards a circumstance or person we try to keep it all bottled up. Confess your feelings to that person no matter how nasty you may sound. Clearing the air is always better than keeping it inside you and letting it fester.

Venture Outdoors

This one is a little bit of a reminder to me because I’m such a homebody. No take yourself outdoors be it running an errand, taking a walk, doing some shopping. Just being out with people around you makes a world of difference to how you feel inside. Smiling at a stranger lifts my spirits to no end.

Don’t forget to step out.

Embrace Calculated Risks

Sometimes opportunities come your way but they are attached to tiny risks. Don’t be afraid to take them and give yourself a chance at some happiness. Whether it is taking a trip you don’t quite have the budget for or calling a friend you haven’t spoken to in awhile or giving that job you’re new to one chance. Take that risk and dive in but only sometimes.

  Volunteer Your Time

I know I shouldn’t be putting this down because I never get around to volunteering but I feel it’s the best way to divert your attention from yourself and devote your time to help someone else. I know it feels good because I volunteered a long time ago and I believe it’s the best New Year’s resolution you can make to yourself.

Dance Through Adversity

When things get really rough don’t forget that you can turn up the radio and dance. Life can turn mean and unforgiving with roadblocks and broken dreams but dance away your worries. It will make you feel like Jennifer Grey for a day.

Practice Self-Reflection

Your year maybe planned quite differently but it’s never going to go the way it’s planned. At the end of the year resolve to re assess because when you do you’ll find that there were a million things you didn’t get right but there maybe five things that you did do right and were wonderful. It will also give you a way to go forward and close in on things that may not be working and carry forward what you have learnt.

I will be embracing these transformative resolutions for a balanced year ahead. Everyone needs a guide, a roadmap, and a chart to begin with. Where life takes us then may be entirely different but the first step lies within that map you charted.
