Blue Heart

Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

The blue heart ring

Reminds me of days

When we were carefree and young

With junk on our fingers

And love in our hearts

When days started

With a morning greeting friends

The sun it rose

As we head to the college for a day

The classroom was filled

With things to learn

But also of laughter, dangling earrings and falling in love

The blue heart ring was on me all the time

And it reminded me of the deepest crush I ever had

Deep as the ocean the blue heart ring

Kept me attached to the joy he did bring

It’s metal I twisted once

Desperate to see the boy

The ring then forever was kept aside

Mangled it was for the love it never found

But sits as a reminder still

Of free spirited college days

Singing with friends

Playing pranks

Smiling always

The morning light gracing our classrooms

Lighting up our days

Not knowing where we were heading to

What mattered was having a pal sit by my side

The blue heart ring

A memory of

When a piece of junk, friends and freedom

Was enough to lead the way
