Say wham! Wham!

I have not earned any concert tickets lately, so decided to write about a memory of music that I had. I will go on to say that I do not have a deep knowledge about music history but there’s always feelings associated to a song or artist.

Everyone must have a special memory of 80s pop and the one band which screams out pop back then was Wham!

I was just a baby but was taught to hold on dearly to our Wham! cassette. I cannot remember now which album it was. To recall a little anecdote from the past-This one time we hailed a rickshaw, stepped inside and then we were greeted with a crystal-clear Wake Me Up Before You Go- Go. That was the most unlikely thing to happen because you only get Bollywood music blaring from a rickshaw. The rider told us someone left the tape behind for him. It was a hilarious moment, a music system with great sound and the best rickshaw ride ever to have happened.

Say wham Wham!
Wake me up before you go-go

Music videos of Last Christmas and Careless Whispers lent out such romantic stories of failed relationships that we could never get enough of those numbers. They were ingrained in us.

Many of us grew up trying to imitate George Michael’s iconic hairstyle and his signature dance steps. I am always one to ask my hairstylist for an 80s pop George Michael hairdo. Still crazy about them after all these years.

When you are young you discover music through someone else and as you grow older you start to appreciate more of what you listened to as a kid. A Different Corner is a song that means so much to me now. It is significant for me for a time that if I had not turned a different corner, I would have never met some special people who were instrumental in my life.

Some music is timeless and evergreen and Wham! will always be music of the present and the future. It’s cool, funky, and music for all ages. You know those times when you are listening to a music playlist but you’re not really paying attention because you’re a little preoccupied and then Last Christmas plays and suddenly, you’re listening and taken back to another time.

Wham! will always have that vibe!

Wham! (Briefly known in the US as Wham! U.K.) were an English pop duo formed in Bushey in 1981. The duo consisted of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. They became one of the most commercially successful pop acts of the 1980s, selling more than 30 million certified records worldwide from 1982 to 1986.

Make the most of every day

Don’t let hard times stand in your way

Give a wham give a bam but don’t

give a damn
