We all are different kind of learners and we each approach study work in what feels comfortable for us. I know that I would have to understand a chapter by first being attentive in class and understanding what I’m learning but also rely a lot on rote learning due to the copious amounts of texts we needed to grasp and deliver. I wished that I knew better ways of learning and helpful study techniques so it would be easier and more meaningful.

Here are some effective and helpful study techniques that can help you succeed in higher secondary school:-
Create a study schedule
Plan your study sessions in advance and allocate specific time slots for each subject or topic. Having a schedule helps you stay organized and ensures that you cover all necessary material. Staying organized keeps you stress free and stay ahead of your work.
Break down your study material
Instead of trying to study everything at once, break down your study material into smaller, manageable chunks. Focus on one topic or concept at a time and move on to the next once you feel comfortable.
Learn how to Summarize
Learning how to summarize the text your learning by highlighting main points helps understand the study material and put into practice, writing using your own words.
Use active learning techniques
Passive reading is often less effective than actively engaging with the material. Use techniques such as summarizing information in your own words, creating flashcards, teaching the material to someone else, or participating in group discussions to reinforce your understanding.
Take regular breaks
Research suggests that regular breaks during study sessions can improve focus and retention. Try the Pomodoro Technique, where you study for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break, and then repeat. After a few cycles, take a longer break of around 15-30 minutes.
Practice with past papers and sample questions
Familiarize yourself with the exam format by practicing with past papers or sample questions. This helps you understand the types of questions that may be asked and allows you to practice your time management skills. The act of actually writing what you have learnt for some is a good way to develop better memory retention.
Create visual aids
Visual aids like diagrams, mind maps, charts, and flowcharts can be powerful tools for organizing information and improving memory retention. Use colors, symbols, and keywords to make them more memorable and visually appealing. Mnemonics also help remember multiple points better as they give you a hint and better way of remembering things.
Find a conducive study environment
Choose a quiet, well-lit area where you can focus without distractions. Ensure you have all the necessary materials within reach, such as textbooks, notebooks, and stationery.
Group Study
Some students feel comfortable learning on their own but an occasional group study to revise certain concepts and help one another brainstorm solutions would really help in gauging what you still need to know and achieve.
Seek help when needed
Don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers, classmates, or online resources if you’re struggling with a particular subject or concept. Asking for help can provide clarity and fill in knowledge gaps.
Stay healthy
Maintain a balanced lifestyle by getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and engaging in regular physical activity. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, leading to improved concentration and productivity. If one is feeling stressed out at any time, talk to an elder, let them help you get back on track, revisit your time table and take timely breaks to do something that you love.
Review and revise regularly
Instead of cramming information right before exams, review and revise your study material regularly. Spaced repetition, where you revisit previously learned topics at increasing intervals, is a powerful technique for long-term retention.

Remember, we study not just for the examination but to prepare ourself for the future. Don’t let the stress of exams take away the good moments of your life. Balance your studies with these helpful study techniques and have a happy, healthy and successful life. Hope these maybe of help!
