College and my teen years hold some of the most precious memories I’ve ever made. Though the friends and people I connected with have since gone in different directions, the lessons I learned during that time have stayed with me.
Here are a few of the valuable nuggets I imbibed while in college:

Opening Up to Others
In college, I learned the importance of opening up—thanks to having trusted friends by my side. It was there that I first felt safe expressing my thoughts and feelings without shame or fear. By allowing myself to be vulnerable, I grew more confident in my interactions with others.
One particular friend always listened openly, no matter what I had to share—whether it was deep, troubling thoughts, complaints, crushes, fears, or anxieties. She would often offer words of wisdom that I carried with me long after.
Letting Go of Inhibitions
College was a place where I learned to shed my inhibitions. Whether it was breaking into a spontaneous song with my classmates or joining a carefree game of catch, the environment encouraged us to be free and a little wild. While life has since led me back to being more reserved, I often miss those carefree days.
One of my fondest memories is when we all sang “Everybody sing a song, doo da” in unison, with the boys providing drumbeats on the desks. It was such a spontaneous, familial moment.
Being Part of Something Bigger
It was in college that I first found the courage to participate in events and activities. I discovered the joy of connecting with new people and the value of teamwork.
One particular event I remember was a college fete where I helped entertain the crowd. Playing the role of host alongside friends was exhilarating and helped me realize the importance of being part of something larger than myself.
Building Meaningful Friendships
While many people in college were friendly, I learned how to cultivate deep, meaningful friendships—those with people who accepted me as I truly was. Some of these relationships still thrive today.
I remember missing a year of college and fearing that I’d never make new friends. But in time, I grew close to the new batch. My best friend would hold my hand when I felt lonely, and our bond grew into a lifelong friendship.
Believing in Myself
College wasn’t just about friendships; my professors and the principal also played a crucial role in shaping my journey. When my health struggles made things difficult, they mentored me and constantly reminded me to have faith in myself. They assured me that I could continue my studies without fear, and I’m grateful for their guidance.
The classroom was a place where everything came together for me. I still remember how the morning light would stream through the windows as the professor illuminated us on a subject. It was the best part of my day.
Though college seems like a faraway place now, it felt like a second home at the time. The memories may fade, but every once in a while, my mind is filled with warm recollections of those days.
