Art is my Disco

Can art keep me alive? For quite awhile it’s unknowingly been the reason for me showing up in a day. If I don’t manage anything a small drawing may reach my sketchbook. Although I’ve noticed I used my sketchbook more often before than I do now.

Maybe I should go back to those small and pretty ideas as well. Back to art keeping me alive it’s pretty much one place I seem to have a party at. It’s as though I have a disco ball right above me throwing shimmery colors around my art and in my mind.

While I write this I’m waiting for an art project for my shop to come through. It’s a simple project but delayed at the moment and my obsessive nature is going a little out of it’s mind.

I wonder if art can really translate as work? As slow work for me because I dearly need something to work at some level for me right now but this delay has made me realize I can lose the joy in it as fast as I had earlier felt it. It’s hard when you lose momentum in your creative flow.

While art becomes a part of me silently like leaves falling from an autumn tree I still don’t call myself an artist because I’m learning and not by studying but just by experiencing it. I’m an art lover not an artist and as I say art lover. I remember calling myself a bibliophile but never ravaging books taking them slowly. Neither do I know art but I know I should dig deeper, learn about artists, read more about art, learn how different cultures perceive art. There’s so much to do yet. I should say I’m late at it but you’re never too late to want something you don’t really know.

What is important is that art has deeper meaning everyday not just ‘joy’ that I often call it. It could be waking up to draw something, doodling a flower in the pages of my journal, it could be disappointment over an art project, it could be feeling unaccomplished when you can’t paint waves, it could be replacing loneliness over a paintbrush, it could be discovering a style that’s very you or loving a medium over eveything else.

So like my art this blog is a little abstract it’s not sure what it’s trying to say but with all it’s strokes and marks it’s conveying if you look deeper that this naive girl is grateful for her art with it’s setbacks and disco balls!

Naive? Maybe. HeArt? Always.
