Dear Diary,

The Diary of Anne Frank

During the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, Anne Frank received a blank diary as one of her presents on 12 June 1942, her 13th birthday. According to the Anne Frank House, the red, checkered autograph book which Anne used as her diary was actually not a surprise, since she had chosen it the day before with her father when browsing a bookstore near her home. She entered a one-sentence note on her birthday, writing “I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.

Diaries have always been by my side and although the diary of Anne Frank was so important and significant historically just like Anne Frank, to me they have meant a way to confess everything. Feelings, thoughts whether real or imagined, events, happy times and moments of grief. There was a turning point in my life when a diary started having more meaning to me than only writing childish poems and girly thoughts.

Vision Boards

It’s when the diary started becoming much like a vision board. I remember I was out of work and did not know which way to turn and I started writing small plans and steps of what I could do. Much later when I went back to my diary I realized that I had ticked off all the things I had planned and made progress too.

Life has a way of throwing you off balance when you least expect it. I always seem to get myself in the same situations much like a pattern. There’s nothing I can do to stop it. It’s mostly out of my control.

So this time around I have a planner a beautiful dark purple one that immediately puts me in a good mood as I open it. It has helped me be strict with myself even though I’ve been home and maintain a structure to my life and how I manage my time. It becomes important for me to tick off what’s on my weekly plan even if I’m having one where I’m incredibly low.

Most importantly it very carefully has all my visions and I believe strongly that they do come true in time if you write them down. Maybe over the years but they do come true.

I also have small sketches done with color pencils and the stickers are only for days or events that have been truly memorable.

A diary is a girl’s best friend and a planner helps a woman live a more disciplined life and make it easier for her to reach all her goals, dreams and aspirations.

It’s a place where you put down the plan of your heart and see your vision come true in the most natural way.
