I am very new to forming ideas into a story. Always looking out for things I relate to or observations to guide my writing. This is how The Dervish- A Romantic Novella originated in my mind.
The Inspiration
A few years ago the school I would teach in had a grand event to which the teachers had to attend. It was a musical evening filled with Sufi music. Moments after the band played three dervishes took centerstage. Up until now I had only seen dervishes portrayed in the cinema. I hadn’t expected what was to transpire. When the dervishes began to whirl I was at once entranced in their dancing. As I watched their movements they began to seem larger in their swirling skirts and a beautiful aura enveloped them. I couldn’t help noticing one of the dervishes feminine, soft with blue eyes a sort of struggle and an accepted pain within him.
Thus emerged my character Solaymaan Dhagestani from this one event I was privileged to witness. I have to admit the story is fairly simple but I wanted to write it nevertheless for the enigma of the character of the dervish and the setting of the story.
It’s a romantic novella so most of you will stay shy of this genre but I hope you feel intrigued to pick it up and enjoy the romance just for the sake of romances.
I again chose the path of self publishing because I felt I’m not capable to land a great book deal for the simple books that I write. So as was with ‘Red’ I went with my team of OrangeBooks Publication and it has been a happy ride with them.

The poet Rumi led my writing. As for yet another beautiful quote by him above. It’s true writing doesn’t come easy to me but I’m led by my heart to pursue it. I hope with every word I write I gain more readers and I learn to enjoy the process even more because of it. Hope you find your copy of ‘The Dervish.’
