Raina was having the best time at the school she was teaching in. A couple of years ago she had struggled with an illness and she couldn’t adapt to any place of work.
She was thriving here and was busy with the Annual Programme of the school. Grateful that she had finally had a career again. She doted on the children and did everything she could to be a better teacher to them.
The day of the technical rehearsal the world was hit with the news of the pandemic. The rehearsal went on as planned and the teachers and children both enjoyed the culmination of the hard work and effort they had put in for their grand day. During a break a teacher suddenly broke into a song and the hall came alive everyone singing and smiling along.
Teacher Raina couldn’t then imagine what happened one of the students took her by the hand and they did a quick jive he singing one of her favorite tunes.
Raina now sits by her window. Her life took a turn after the pandemic and she was no longer the same. She quit her work and started working from home.
A song came on and she remembered it had been years since she had danced and she remembered the spontaneous jive with her student. The moment that everything seemed alright and how happy she felt dancing to the rhythm of the song he hummed.
That was Raina’s last dance, a reminder of how life was momentarily and how life could still have been.

A dance that made her feel alive
High as though she were flying
The tunes they didn’t make her dance no more
She was left abandoned by the tunes themselves
